Gideon Amos, the MP for Taunton and Wellington, is launching a series of informal ‘pub and coffee shop surgeries’ for constituents to raise concerns.
The move comes after he suggested the idea on social media at the weekend.
Mr Amos wrote: “I’ve had a few people suggest I hold some informal surgeries for people who, as opposed to wanting a confidential chat about a complex case, would like to chat about local issues, national politics, policy or anything else.
“This would likely take place in a pub/coffee shop – I would let you know a time when I will be there, and anyone is welcome to join me for a drink and a chat.
“Of course, my usual private surgeries will continue to be held for people who have emailed me to assist with their issues.
“What do you think? Would this be useful? I'm very keen to break down the barriers of political representation which people increasingly feel, so any suggestions are most welcome.”
After being overwhelmed with positive responses, the first ‘pub and coffee shop surgery’ will now take place on Friday week, November 8. The venue and time will be confirmed via the MP’s social media feeds.
Meanwhile, Mr Amos has now confirmed his schedule for private surgeries – to book an appointment, email contact@gideonamos.org.uk or call 01823 336666.
